Background

At Sureserve Training Academy, we believe that hands-on experience is the most effective way to learn. Our ASHP course includes practical, real-world projects that allow participants to apply their learning in realistic scenarios, building confidence and competence in air source heat pump technology.

Key Learning Topics

This comprehensive course covers all essential areas of air source heat pump technology, including:

  • Health & Safety – Understanding hazards and safe working practices
  • Regulations & Standards – Complying with industry regulations and installation standards
  • Heat Pump Units & Components – Exploring the operation and function of system components
  • System Components – Understanding system layouts and key operational characteristics
  • System Types & Hydraulic Circuits – Examining system types and emitter circuit arrangements
  • Selection & System Design – Learning the principles of effective system design and sizing
  • Design Principles – Applying best practices in heat pump system design
  • Installation Preparation – Planning and preparing for installation
  • Installation & Commissioning – Installing, testing and commissioning systems safely
  • Installation Organisation – Managing workflow and installation processes
  • Testing & Commissioning – Performing system checks and validations
  • Client Handover – Ensuring a smooth and professional system handover
  • Inspection, Servicing & Maintenance – Maintaining and servicing heat pump systems
  • Diagnosis & Repair – Identifying and resolving common system issues
  • Fault Diagnosis Competency – Developing proficiency in fault finding and rectification

Prerequisites

To install, service and maintain ASHP systems, candidates must hold the WRAS qualification in addition to this ASHP qualification.

For those seeking MCS accreditation to design ASHP systems, the Level 3 Award in Low Temperature Heating and Hot Water Systems in Dwellings is also required.

Course Assessment

Assessment is carried out through a combination of:

  • Written and practical assessments
  • Multiple-choice questions
  • A design scenario

Upon successful completion, participants will achieve the RQF Level 3 Award in the Installation & Maintenance of Heat Pump Systems, awarded by LCL Awards.
